April 20, 2012 - Researchers have discovered the reason why many overweight people don't lose weight is because they don't know they have a problem. Out of 3500 hundred college students, a third didn't know their weight. Many actually underestimated the scale. Further, only half of the overweight men identified themselves as such. Researchers from the University of Illinois, where the survey was conducted, say women had a more realistic view of their weights than men. They also discovered that those who did overestimate their weight were more likely to be younger females with less educated parents. It is believed that these applicants may be at greater risk of developing anorexia or bulimia.

Also, federal judges hear arguments over new, proposed warning labels for cigarette packs. The Food and Drug Administration wants large warnings like these placed on every pack showing graphic images that make claims like "cigarettes cause cancer." Congress gave the FDA the power to put those labels on cigarettes in 2009 when it put the agency in charge of regulating tobacco. It's part of a big push to convince Americans, especially younger ones, not to smoke. but, attorneys for the tobacco companies argue the labels are an example of the government violating their first amendment rights. The images were supposed to start appearing on cigarette packs last September. But the legal battle is likely to reach the Supreme Court, a process that would delay a final decision on the issue for years.
