May 10, 2012 - Anti-psychotic drugs can significantly lower the risk of relapse in patients with schizophrenia. After analyzing 50 years of data, doctors in Germany found patients who receive the drugs are significantly less likely to be hospitalized and behave aggressively. Also, people having injections of antipsychotic drugs were less likely to have a relapse than those taking tablets, possibly because people don't always take their tablets as directed. Overall they found the anti-psychotic drugs reduced relapse rates anywhere from 27 to 64 percent.

Also, Aspirin could be as effective as more expensive drugs for heart failure patients with a normal heart rhythm, according to researchers. Their study on more than 2,000 patients, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, said aspirin was as effective as the commonly prescribed drug warfarin noting each drug had risks, but they had similar benefits overall. Researchers gave 2,305 patients, in 11 countries, either aspirin or warfarin. The combined risk of death, stroke and major bleeding was the same for each drug, according to the research.
