May 15, 2012 - If you can't stand another moment of hearing your kids whine, keep in mind that parents are happier than people without children. That's according to a USA Today article that cites two new studies presented at the Population Association of America's annual meeting. The new studies surveyed around 130 thousand adults worldwide, including 52,000 parents. The article says parents today are happier than non-parents and that happiness levels don't drop to where they were before the kids came along.
Also, do you want to live longer? Get out and go for a jog. A Copenhagen City Heart study finds that jogging regularly adds a little more than six years to the life expectancy of men and about five and half years for women. The study found that running between one and two and a half hours a week at a slow or average pace would do the job. Researchers say regular running provides multiple health benefits, including raised oxygen uptake, increased insulin sensitivity, higher levels of good HDL cholesterol, lowered blood pressure, and reduced blood clotting. It also improved heart and immune function, bone density while reducing inflammation, and protection against obesity.
