May 25, 2012 - A new study links US veterans exposed to Improvised Explosive Devices to the same dementia-like brain disease found NFL players. The research suggests there is a common thread that binds those exposed to traumatic brain injury, whether it happens on the football field or war zone. Researchers from Boston University compared the brain tissue of four veterans to that of pro athletes with a history of concussion. They also exposed a group of mice to blast winds, and found they also showed evidence of the brain disease.
Also, new research finds the superbug starts in large hospitals and then spreads to smaller ones. Scientists in scotland say they've found evidence that shows how the MRSA bacteria moves from hospital to hospital. They found that regional hospitals in big cities, where many patients are treated, serve as breeding grounds for the superbug, which is mainly spread on people's hands.
