May 29, 2012 - The Centers for Disease Control is urging all US baby boomers to get tested for the Hepatitis C virus. One in 30 people born from 1945 through 19-65, has unknowingly been infected. Hepatitis C causes serious liver diseases, including liver cancer, the fastest rising cause of cancer related deaths and the leading cause of liver transplants. More than 2 million Hepatitis C infected baby boomers, account for more than 75 percent of all American adults living with the virus.
Also, your doctor could soon be monitoring your vital signs from their own home. The federal communications commission says it plans to allocate spectrum bandwidth for use of body sensors that would monitor a patient's vital signs wirelessly. The spectrum will work specifically with m-ban, medical body area network sensor devices. The idea is that doctors could monitor patient's vital signs at home or in hospital via low cost wearable sensors that are attached to the patient's body. FCC officials say the amount of radiation involved with these devices is so low that they would pose no health risks.
