June 22, 2012 - Walking slower later in life could signal dementia. Researchers in Oregon followed 93 people age 70 or older. By putting sensors in their home, they found slow walkers were nine times more likely to have mild cognitive impairment or MCI. The authors say more studies need to be done on larger groups to determine if walking speed could predict future memory problems.

Also, one local hospital is celebrating an 'A' rating. Capital Regional Medical Center was given the highest grade when it comes to patient safety. The study was run by the independent non-profit, The Leap Frog Group. Statistics like patient injuries, medical and medication errors and infections determined each hospital's score. While Capital Regional Medical received the highest score, Tallahassee Memorial Hospital was given an overall 'C' grade.
