June 4, 2012 - Women who can't kick the smoking habit during pregnancy may have an alternative way to help their newborn children. Vitamin C can significantly improve a baby's lung function, according to a study at Oregon Health and Science University Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Researchers found that newborns of smoking women who took a Vitamin C supplement had better lung function compared with newborns of smoking women who received a placebo. The findings were be presented at the American Thoracic Society 2012 International Conference.

Also, a chemical found in marijuana doesn't help certain people with multiple sclerosis. Researchers gave capsules containing THC to MS patients in the secondary stage of the condition. The drug did not ease symptoms like muscle weakness and numbness. British scientists plan to test THC on patients with a more mild form of M-S.
