July 6, 2012 - There will soon be a new diet pill available to help some overweight people fight the battle of the bulge. The US Food and Drug Administration approved the weight loss aid Belviq. It reportedly tricks the brain into making a person feel full after eating small amounts of food. The drug is approved for use in adults with a body mass index of at least 30, which is classified as obese. Overweight adults who have at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol may also use it. The medication is expected to be used in combination with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise.

Also a new vaccine could help smokers quit for good. Researchers in new york tested the vaccine on mice and found a single dose protects against nicotine addiction for an entire lifetime. The vaccine introduces antibodies that attack the nicotine before it reaches the brain or heart. It needs a few more rounds of animal tests before it can be tested on people.
