March 19, 2012 - Researchers have discovered that losing belly fat allows blood vessels to work better. During a six month study, researchers at John Hopkins found that the more belly fat people lost, the better their arteries were able to expand when needed. Doctors say being overweight increases the risk of cardio-vascular disease, especially if the fat is in the belly above the waist.

Also, a group called Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is hoping the phrase, "hot dogs cause butt cancer" is enough to make drivers in Chicago think. The group points out on its website, that Illinois ranks sixth in the nation for colorectal cancer rates, according to the C-D-C. But what's causing so much controversy is that it's blaming the consumption of processed meats for the increase. The American Cancer Society does say that higher consumption of processed meats is associated with an increased risk of colon cancer. However, the American Meat Institute says hot dogs are an excellent source of protein and vitamins, while the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council says the group behind the billboard is a pseudo-medical animal rights group.
