March 9, 2012 - Sleepy transportation workers may be putting their passengers and those around them at risk. A new study from the National Sleep Foundation focused on pilots, train operators and bus drivers. It showed one in five pilots admitted making a serious error due to sleepiness. One in six truck drivers says they've had a near collision because of fatigue. The results showed transportation workers are three times more likely to report job performance problems than the rest of the population.
Also,the more teens are exposed to alcohol use in movies, the more likely they are to binge drink. Researchers studied more than 16 thousand teens in Europe. They found those who had seen heavy drinking in movies were significantly more likely to imitate that behavior. The results were consistent even after factoring in age and wealth.
