Depression may be the most expensive condition to treat.

A new study says the cost for treating mental illnesses jumped two-thirds, making it the costliest medical condition.

The number of Americans under care for mental illnesses also jumped from 19 million to 36 million.

The Federal Agency for Health care Research and Quality analyzed data between 1996 and 2006.

Among these mental disorders are depression and bipolar disease.

The other top five costliest conditions were heart disease, cancer, trauma-related disorders and asthma.
