There may be a cheaper, easier way to reduce stress.
Researchers at the Group Health Research Institute found that relaxing while listening to soft, soothing music is a good way to reduce anxiety.
In a recent study, patients had half the symptoms of anxiety three months after getting a series of ten hour massages.
But researchers found that massages didn't reduce anxiety any more than lying down and listening to soft music.
In the same study, some patients were given massages while music played.
And another group had their legs and arms wrapped with heated pads
And warm towels while listening to music.
None of the groups showed any difference in their levels of relief after three-months.
Researchers say listening to music to decrease anxiety may be a more cost-effective option for people with generalized anxiety disorder.
