Highway Directions in Thomasville

Thousands of tourists flock to historic downtown Thomasville each year, but Main Street directors say motorists passing through the area may not even recognize the Rose City for what it's worth.

Downtown Thomasville is steeped in history and Main Street directors say it lives up to its nickname, "The City of Roses.”

Sharlene Celaya, Thomasville Main Street Director, says, "It's been a goal of ours to have nice entry signs coming into Thomasville so people will know what's ahead of them."

Starting early next year, signs Main Street officials feel are representative of the Rose City will be posted at major intersections in the area, including 19, 319 and Highway 84.

Main Street officials say most motorists driving on the main highways through Thomasville have no idea what the historic downtown area offers, and the signs can help.

Tracy Avery, who commutes from Tallahassee, says, "When I drive in I don't really know what I'm coming into. This would be really good for it. Nice signs."

Rose City officials say these aren't your average street signs and they hope the signs will point travelers in the right direction, a stop in the heart of downtown Thomasville.

Main Street officials hope to begin installing six signs in January at a cost of about $8,000 per sign.
