UPDATED 5:13 p.m. by Gabrielle Sarann --

Valdosta Police are investigating why two shootings in approximately two months happened outside the American Legion nightclub.

"We have talked with them, and we are trying to work with them to maybe buy a video system over there to help us with these cases," said Valdosta Police Commander Brian Childress.

Officers say the shooting that happened early Friday is under investigation and that they have no suspects in custody yet.

"There was some rumor or discussion this was a drive-by shooting," said Childress. "And at this point based off the fiscal evidence, we don't believe that. We believe this might have been an altercation or incident that took place in the parking lot."

The previous incident happened June 25.

Officers say bullets fired in the same club parking lot struck two bystanders: one in the hand and the other in the foot.

A 15-year-old juvenile and Rahmann Kates, 20, were later arrested on two counts of aggravated assault and for having a firearm.

Kates is being held at the Lowndes County jail and the juvenile is at a Regional Youth Detention Center in Thomasville.

Police confirm that the American Legion Club is popular among area youth.

But it's their choice to carry guns that people who live near here say they can't justify.
