Tallahassee, FL (AP) - State economists say Florida's budget
gap for the next fiscal year will drop by more than half.
A new long-range financial outlook released Friday estimates the
difference between general revenue collections and critical to high
priority needs at $2.5 billion for the budget year beginning next
July 1.
The prior estimate this spring had predicted a $5.5 billion
budget gap.
The update says that if only the most critical needs are
included the gap would drop to $828 million.
The biggest factor contributing to the potential red ink is the
loss of federal stimulus money as that program will end before the
new budget year begins. The current budget includes nearly $2.6
billion in stimulus.

I have to agree with Anonymous. As a 20 year state employee, I can tell you from personal experience that the morale in state government is at an all time low. Why is that you may ask? Try no raises in over 5 years, cutbacks in personnel and more responsibility placed on those who remain for the same pay. It's no wonder that all of the good, dedicated employees are looking elsewhere. There's an old joke but in state government it's all too true...MY TAKE HOME PAY WON'T EVEN TAKE ME HOME!
How about giving a well deserved raise to those who are ecential personell?? I'ts been too long. Moral is dropping fast
the problem is with your gov. is that they think that they have to spend every dollar they get. SAVE SOME FOR HARD TIMES IDIOTS.
