On August 24, the federal government announced that Georgia was named as one of the winners in the race to the top competition.
The state's been awarded a 400 million dollar grant to help boost student success in the classroom.
How the money will be split up between schools in Georgia is unknown at this time.
Valdosta City School Superintendent Bill Cason said they're one of two schools south of Macon to receive the award.
"The good thing about all of this is it has to go towards meeting the needs of students in instructional areas. So from that standpoint we are pleased that we are going to have that money spent on our students," said Cason.
The grant is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
It encourages new approaches to improving student success in the classroom.
