Tallahassee, FL (AP) - Governor Charlie Crist says he agrees with
Gen. David Petraeus and others who believe the burning of Qurans by
members of a Gainesville church could put U.S. troops in danger.
Crist released a statement Wednesday night saying that besides
being offensive, the Sept. 11 book burning puts at risk those brave
Americans who are fighting abroad for the freedoms and values that
all Americans believe in.
Crist says he will be monitoring Saturday's situation to ensure
the safety of all Floridians.
Pastor Terry Jones, of the Dove Outreach Center, announced in
July that he would stage "International Burn-a-Quran Day" to mark
the ninth anniversary of 9/11. Despite national pressure to cancel
the event, he said Wednesday that his plans have not changed.

Statement by GOVERNOR CHARLIE CRIST Regarding Saturday's Quran burning:

“I strongly agree with General Petraeus and others who warn that burning Qurans as a form of protest on September 11th puts our fighting men and women overseas in grave danger. In addition to being offensive, the Gainesville protest puts at risk those brave Americans who are fighting abroad for the freedoms and values that we believe in as Americans. As Governor of the great state of Florida, I will be monitoring Saturday's situation closely to ensure the safety of all Floridians."

TERRY JONES IS AN IDIOT! I USED TO LIVE IN GAINESVILLE& I AM A CHRISTIAN. WHAT HE IS PLANNING ON DOING IS VERY WRONG. NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE BAD OR DO BAD THINGS. I HAVE A SON THAT IS HALF-IRANIAN AND WE BOTH AGREE THAT BURNING THE Q'URAN IS VERY VERY WRONG. WE HAVE BOTH A BIBLE AND A Q'URAN IN OUR HOME. THE Q'URAN IS A HOLY BOOK, JUST LIKE THE BIBLE AND THE TORAH. TERRY JONES SHOULD READ THE Q'URAN, HE WOULD SEE HOW SIMILAR IT IS TO THE BIBLE.WE AS AMERICANS SHOULD NOT JUDGE ALL MUSLIMS BAD OR EVIL BECAUSE OF SOME MUSLIMS WHO COMMIT EVIL ACTS OF VIOLENCE. I IMPLORE TERRY JONES NOT TO DO THIS. THINK OF ALL THE VIOLENCE YOU WILL CAUSE BY DOING THIS. YOU WILL PUT OUR TROOPS IN DANGER. WE WILL SPEND THIS SATURDAY AT A MOSQUE PRAYING AGAINST THIS AND AGAINST VIOLENCE.
