What was supposed to be an informative meeting ... or a question and answer session at most ... turned into a heated debate over, well- a stinky situation.
There are four recommendations on what to do with the Primary Springs Protection Zone, which extends from the Wakulla Basin to Tram Road in Tallahassee and across to the Airport.
The first recommendation says if there is any new or redevelopment on a resident's home, then a septic tank, should be replaced with a performance based treatment system which is nationally recognized and costly.
"We're talking about a Cadillac Luxury System. Is this the time for this?" one resident questioned.
The second recommendation states if a home-owner's septic tank breaks, the resident will only have to replace it with an upgraded system if there is approved funding available. And the third says there must be an inspection every 5 years.. "Are we going to have to pay them to do that?"
Morgan says, "Forget about septic tanks as they are. What septic tanks are in the ground that's working, leave them alone."
Option 4 says the Primary springs protection zone should hang everything up until the state wide mandate Senate Bill 5-50 goes into effect January 1st 2011- Then go from there.
Ann Porter who's not only a resident of Woodville, She also served on the septic decision board says, "The inspection will be going on so it's taking it's toll then we can see what septic tanks are working and whats not then."
But the one thing everyone did agree on is that they didn't want to open their wallets.
Unfortunately, nothing was accomplished at Wednesday night's meeting...Ann Porter who served on the septic tank decision board says she hopes tonight's meeting just got everyone ready to attend the Commission meeting scheduled for next Tuesday. The floor will be open starting at 3pm at the Leon County Courthouse.

well written Time4fed.reg: you have hit the BUTTON ON THE HEAD. The USA goverment including FLA, JUMPS before it sees clearly. What breath of fresh air. Let learn a lesson here before WE all go Bankrupt DONNIE go back to school and learn to write
What would be fair is for the Fed.government to enforce the Clean Water Act mandating THAT the Regional Development Council, the Northwest Water Mgmt. District, Fla. DEP, FDOT [to manage traffic during construction], Dept.of Community Affairs any other Fl. agency, both in Leon & Wakulla Cty. to ENFORCE the law by having a comprehensive sewer plan before ANY further development is ALLOWED to proceed. Then the cost of development will be met at the outset of the project, instead of being of loaded onto the backs of individual homeowners AFTER the fact causing everyone who may drink our water... AND that happens to include everyone to KNOW that our Water is safe! Doesn't the oath of office for our representatives address protecting the health of our citizens?
