The Florida National Guard has 2,000 troops in areas devastated by Hurricane Ivan and will be trying to prevent looting Thursday night.
National Guard LT COL Ron Tittle says 1,700 guard members rolled out of Tallahassee Thursday morning and that most are now in Pensacola.
Tittle says another 300 who live in the Panhandle were also activated, including Special Forces troops. He says those 300 came from Pensacola, Panama City and smaller armories.
The guard members also will be trying to assess needs in damaged areas and participating in search and rescue. After that, the guard will turn to humanitarian work.
