Shock waves are reverberating through a local church community. A youth minister is arrested on charges of child molestation.
A 16-year-old girl is the alleged victim. Investigators say she claims she had been molested by a man who is known to be a man of God by members at Faith Horizon Ministries.
What the pastor of Faith Horizon Ministries can't believe is that his youth minister and son-in-law would be accused of molesting a 16-year-old girl. Investigators say the girl confided in her school guidance counselor last week.
CAPT John Richards with the Thomas County Sheriff's Office says, "[She said] that she had multiple sexual related encounters when she was about 13 years old with this individual."
After an investigation, 25-year-old Roderick Suber was arrested and charged with one count of child molestation. Suber is considered a pillar of the church.
Jeff Christopher, the senior pastor at Faith Horizon Ministries, says, "The allegations against Rodney Suber are unfounded. He will be found innocent; there's nothing to substantiate the charges that have been brought forth."
Investigators say the girl was a visitor of the church and somehow formed a relationship with Suber, a relationship that turned sexual at sleepovers, camping trips and other church activities.
Christopher adds, "We would never condone nor allow any type of inappropriate activity."
Richards says there is evidence that confirms the allegations, which will be sent to the district attorney for prosecution.
Richards says, "It's some serious charges, it'll all be worked out in the end."
Churchgoers say until the end they’re praying the truth will shed light on the situation. The pastor of the church contends the victim has a history of psychological problems which may have provoked the allegations, but this information is not confirmed by investigators.
More charges could be pending in this case; the investigation is ongoing. Suber has been released on a 5,000 bond and ordered not to have any contact with the victim. Suber will remain as youth minister of the church.
