Holiday Delays at Tallahassee Airport

There's no place like home for the holidays. Many travelers have to spend countless hours cooped up in airports to get there. The lousy weather making for travel delays across much of the nation on the busiest of travel days.

The rain showed no mercy Wednesday afternoon.

At Tallahassee Regional Airport, two to three hour delays were seen in the wake of a storm front that stretched across the southeast.

For passengers, delay times did not factor in the early arrival times.

"I guess three; I came really early so I wouldn't miss my flight,” shares holiday traveler Bobbie Wainner.

The crowds are a rare sight at Tallahassee Regional, that's according to airport officials. But, there's not much that can be done about Mother Nature.

"We've been here for five hours so far and have another four hours to wait in Atlanta, at least,” says traveler Art Johnstone, who is flying with five kids.

Not good when you're trying to get to Grandma's house for Thanksgiving.

The weather did eventually let up.

But, delays continued due to weather in Atlanta and other connecting hubs.

Still, from what we saw and what airport officials tell us, people were patient and kept busy.

"The fact that we can wait and sit around like this maybe shows we've become, that we're more civilized than some other folks might be under the circumstances, so we should be thankful for that I guess at this time of year,” says traveler Allan Katz, who is waiting for a flight out.

Operations are expected to return to normal come Thursday morning, in time for the next rush.

Tallahassee Regional Airport officials say they expect 10,000 people to come through the terminal this Thanksgiving holiday season!
