Expensive crude oil is pushing up retail gas prices over the past six weeks. They are edging closer to highs reached in May and June of this year.
Pump prices generally decline after the summer driving season ends, but they are expected to continue climbing because of expensive oil. Crude closed Thursday at almost $55 a barrel, another new record.
AAA says the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Fort Lauderdale area was $2.01, up more than 11 cents during the last month.
In the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area, regular gas averaged $2.06 per gallon, up 10 cents over the past four weeks. In Miami, the average was $2.03 per gallon, more than a 13-cent increase from a month ago.
Prices in the report are averages, and actual prices are often higher.
