Damaging parts of the gymnasium and five classrooms, clouds of black smoke poured out of the gym's doors hours after the blaze began.
Firefighters worked all afternoon to find out what sparked the blaze, but there is still no official word. Meanwhile, investigators are treating it as suspicious, calling out the forensic unit from three departments.
“It's not unusual for a case such as this when fire involves suspicious origin to work the case with all the agencies involved,” said Mark Ormerod of the Tallahassee Police Department.
School officials say the blaze won’t disrupt classes come Monday morning.
”School will take place as usual Monday morning at RAA. There will be absolutely no disruption of the school day. We lost five or six classrooms and the use of the gym as well, but we've already taken care of that,” added Bill Montford, Superintendent of Leon County Schools.
Agents with the Tallahassee Fire Department, the State Fire Marshall's Office and Tallahassee's Burglary Unit are all working the investigation.
