A motorist who led police Monday on a two-county chase across Tampa Bay crashed into a tree, killing his female passenger.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office identified the driver as 27-year-old Patrick Hoang and the passenger as 28-year-old Angela Almany, both of St. Petersburg.
The incident began when St. Petersburg police said they saw Hoang pick up a woman in his 1991 Chevy four-door sedan and engage in a lewd act with her. When a police officer approached the car, Hoang drove at the officer, hitting him but not injuring him.
Hoang then fled to Tampa where officers there attempted to stop him, but he eluded them.
The driver then returned to St. Petersburg where the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office helicopter spotted him. The Sheriff's Office said they were not chasing Hoang when he attempted to turn into an apartment complex and hit a tree at 80 miles per hour.
Almany died at the scene. Hoang was listed in good condition.
Charges against Hoang are pending, including possible charges in Almany's death.
