Local Students Adopt Troops

A student group at Tallahassee Community College is taking a troop overseas under its wing. A campus-wide supply drive came about after the Eagle Business Society's president-elect was deployed to fulfill another duty.

We've seen many supply drives around the nation, but this one has a special connection. Kyle, whose last name is not being released for security reasons, was supposed to serve this fall as TCC's Eagle Business Society's president, but instead another duty took precedence.

“He was deployed into the Middle East, so we wanted to show him in a tangible way how our thoughts and prayers are with him.”

Coincidentally, Jorge Pedraza, who recently returned from Iraq, is filling the presidential vacancy. Through a campus-wide drive and corporate donations, all kinds of goodies from food to toiletries to FSU gear were collected.

Kimberly Richardson, an EBS board member, says “It's just a little piece of home, even though they can't be home to watch football and home to watch baseball, it'll be in their hearts.”

TCC's Eagle Business Society is still accepting supplies. If you would like to donate some items, call (850) 201-8350.
