Mr. Food: Gumdrop Cookies

You're in for a sweet treat as Mr. Food brings us yet another delicious dessert. Let's dig in!

Nothing beats the taste of homemade cookies, but if you rarely bake 'cause it's easier to just buy store-bought, you're missing out on the simple pleasures of those aromas coming from the oven, so what you need is a shortcut, and we've got it!

Using any brands at all, in a large bowl, we beat together well 1/3 cup vegetable oil, 2 eggs and our shortcut ingredient, a package of yellow cake mix! Then we stir in 1 cup coarsely chopped gumdrops, and drop the batter by teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto sprayed cookie sheets.

Into a preheated 350-degree oven they go for about 12 to 14 minutes until the cookies are firm. Then, let 'em cool a bit on wire racks and it's time to fill up our cookie jar! Of course, with cookies that taste as good as these, with their sink-your-teeth-into-'em texture and their chewy gumdrop surprise in every bite, that cookie jar may not stay full for long!

If you’d like the recipe, just send a self-addressed, stamped envelope, marked “Gumdrop Cookies,” to me, Mr. Food, right here at the station, or even quicker, pick it up online for the "piece-of-cake" shortcut to home-baked cookies that'll have 'em singing our praises 'cause they'll think we were baking all day, and only we'll know the easy secret, one that'll have us and them saying, "goody, goody gumdrop – 'ooh it's so good!!®'
