Doreen Jackson got the news on Thursday no mother ever wants to hear. Her daughter, 19-year-old Athnea Baker, and her three grandchildren, three-year-old Amad, one-year-old Amarion and Three-week-old Aaron Baker, were all found murdered in their home. There was only one survivor, two-year-old Ashanti Brunson.
It's a heinous crime that has shaken the Marianna community.
Shemeka Marlowe, the victim's sister, says, "Why so cruel? Why do something like that to them? I don't know why?"
There's a lot of asking "why" and "who?”
Lou Roberts, Marianna Police Chief, says, "Indications may be that she knew who this person was, but right now we have no specifics to make the determination."
There are still a lot of unanswered questions. No motive is known and detectives won't say how the victims died. Twelve to 15 investigators are working around the clock to find the answers and bring justice to the family.
"I don't know who would do something like this, who would hurt my sister and my nephews."
Investigators say autopsies are being conducted, so they hope to have more answers sometime this weekend or Monday.
As one can imagine, the community is shocked. Marianna police say it's been three and half years since they've had to investigate a murder.
Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 850-526-5000.
