Federal Fugitive Roundup

One of the sex offenders arrested was caught right outside a Tallahassee preschool. He was one of more than 100 arrests in the span of a week.

A man suspected of raping a woman right in front of her children prompts a massive manhunt and forces the lockdown of Leonard Wesson Elementary School. The arrest of 26-year-old Christopher Jackson was just one of 104 fugitives arrested in the Big Bend during "Operation Falcon."

Frank Chiumento of the North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force says, "We were able to target a lot more fugitives in one day and a lot more locations, and we basically averaged about 20 arrests per day."

The week-long fugitive roundup netted more than 10,000 arrests nationwide, including 160-plus murder arrests, and the arrests of more than 500 sexual predators and rapists. In the Big Bend there are a total 104 arrests to report, including that of documented sex offender Timothy Keene.

Dennis Williamson, United States Marshal, says, "On April 5th, the individual was released from the custody of the Department of Corrections, and a DOC employee noticed him standing outside a day center the following day. He was quickly scooped up."

The last arrest in the week-long round-up was perhaps the wildest as 25-year-old Ryan Sage tried to escape capture by swimming through a drainage ditch and an underground culvert before being nabbed in a holding pond off Armistead Road.

Bill Hurlbut with TPD says, "Came down and saw the ripples and confronted him when he came out of the culvert. At that point, he came up here, jumped the fence and was taken down in this yard."

To give you some idea how intense "Operation Falcon" was, in the Big Bend a force of seven local, state and federal officers ballooned to 37 for this week-long roundup.

As U.S. Marshal Dennis Williamson put it, they averaged as many arrests in one day during this blitz as agents typically make in a week or more.
