Suspect Still at Large in Tallahassee's First Murder of 2005

It happened this weekend near the Mount Zion Calypso Cafe, where police say people go to continue their late night partying.

Detectives say they're in the early stages of this investigation and very busy with it, following up on all leads, but at this point they can't say very much, leaving us with more questions than answers.

Tallahassee's first murder of 2005 happened on a southside street as late night crowds left the Mount Zion Calypso Cafe on Gamble Street.

OFC John Newland of the Tallahassee Police Department says, "Right now our homicide detectives are working diligently to solve this crime."

Police say the victim is 24-year-old Tony Pierrelouis. Police say that Pierrelouis was shot early Saturday morning just before 4 a.m. when the Mt. Zion Calypso Cafe closes.

A business owner right around the corner says he's not surprised about what happened, but is very concerned.

Jeremy Parker of Parker Services Heating and Air says, "It really worries me because a lot of us work here late at night and this club right here, this whole street, it's like Mardi Gras. There's like 200 people around here and they're all drinking and get kind of rowdy.”

But employees at other businesses say that's not true, and that the normal crowd at Mt. Zion Calypso Cafe is very laid back.

In the meantime, detectives are working this first murder of the year from every angle available. As of yet they have not released a motive or a description of the suspect or his car.

OFC John Newland says, "They are working on some very good possible leads that have come in through the Crime Stoppers."

Detectives say that two more people were hurt during the shooting that ended in Pierrelouis' murder. They say another man and a woman were taken to the hospital, operated on and are recovering.

As always, Tallahassee Police are asking that if you have any information in this crime, to please call Crime Stoppers at 891-HELP.
