A councilwoman's son has been arrested for shooting a friend.
Chattahoochee police say Geronald Bates Jr. was arrested Sunday, May 20, for shooting at a car his friends Alondrae Gunn, Ricky Reed Jr. and Hubert Hume Jr. were in, driven by Gunn.
Reed was hit in the knee.
Bates says in the report he asked the three men to leave his mother's home where they'd been attending a barbecue.
He says, they yelled something derogatory about his mom.
In response, Bates says he picked up a gun to scare them away.
Bates is charged with 6 counts of aggravated assault with a weapon and 2 counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
His mother, Annette Bates, is a Chattahoochee councilwoman.
He was released on $25,000 bond.
