Cops Seek Suspect in Tallahassee Bank Robbery

Around 11:30 Tuesday morning, Leon County sheriff's deputies responded to a call at the Farmers and Merchants Bank at U.S. Highway 27 and Talpeco Road.

When they arrived a robbery suspect was already gone.

DET Lee Fuller of the Robbery Task Force with LCSO says, "Right now we are looking for a white male, approximately 5'9” to 5'10”, last seen driving a Mitsubishi Galant."

Bank customer Jack Russell was there to make a deposit.

Jack says, "I walked into the bank and somebody behind the door stuck an automatic pistol in my face and he said 'get down.' "

Initially, Russell didn't take the threat seriously.

“At first I thought it was a joke, and I realized as I turned around and looked towards the floor, I saw nobody in the bank. I realized then I'd just walked into a bank robbery."

As soon as the suspect fled the scene, Russell says he got up, ran to the door and started yelling to see if anyone saw which way the man had gone.

Jack says, "I want him very, very much caught."

Authorities say luckily there were only a few people in the bank at the time and that no one was injured.

Anyone with information on the robbery or the robber's whereabouts is asked to call the Leon County Sheriff's Office at 850-922-3300.
