Child Left Alone on School Bus

Jeremy Blaske just turned four years old and attends Taylor County pre-kindergarten, but he never made it to school Monday.

Jeanne Blaske, Jeremy's mother, says, "I put him on the bus yesterday morning at 6:55 to go to school. I got a call at a quarter to two that my child was left on the bus all day."

Little Jeremy had unbuckled the child safety seat by himself but was too scared to get out. A bus driver noticed Jeremy in another driver's bus crying.

His father is still appalled that his son was left on a hot bus for six-and-a-half hours.

Richard Blaske, Jeremy's father, says, "I don't know what it's going to take to get these bus drivers to look out for my kid, as well as your kids out there on the bus, but something's go to be done."

Oscar M. Howard, Jr., School Superintendent for Taylor County, says, "We had a driver and an aide on that bus. The bus was not checked thoroughly and a child was left on there asleep. This action will not be tolerated in the Taylor County school system. We're taking appropriate actions."

Jeremy was immediately taken to the hospital where he was treated for dehydration. School officials say a similar incident happened at the beginning of the school year. That child was also found unharmed.
