Man Dies in Police Custody after Convulsing

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - June 3, 2012

Police say a north Florida man suspected of shooting his ex-girlfriend has died in custody after having convulsions.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Angelina Valuri says Trevon Miller had taken numerous sleeping pills before the shooting Saturday at his apartment. The woman suffered a minor wound to her neck.

Valuri says Miller briefly barricaded himself inside the apartment and fired shots out a window. Police did not return fire, and no other injuries were reported.

The Associated Press reports that Miller had surrendered and was handcuffed when he started having convulsions. Miller was pronounced dead at a hospital.
