A School Lockdown

A Tallahassee school is put under lockdown after a bank is robbed just blocks away. The lockdown came during the fifth grade commencement.

Yellow tape marks the spot of Tallahassee's latest bank robbery.

"It was the middle of the morning on a busy road, so he's taking a lot of chances doing this," said Tallahassee Police OFC John Newland.

Police say the man walked into the Bank of America at 3430 Thomasville Road empty handed, demanded money from a teller and left with the loot.

The bandit fled on foot in the direction of Gilchrist Elementary School, which was quickly placed on lockdown. Gilchrist Elementary School parent Judi Lewis was there.

"We were in the fifth grade graduation; didn't know we were on lockdown."

Putting policy into action during a fifth grade commencement celebration gave parents a firsthand look at school security.

"Actually very validating experience, that under any circumstance or event our kids, parents and faculty know how to handle procedure. Went smoothly," said Gilchrist Elementary School Principal Scotty Crowe.

Police hope their hunt for a thief runs just as smoothly. If you have any information about this crime you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 850-891-HELP.
