South Georgia deputies say they have a sexual molester behind bars.
Grady County deputies say the man is being held on charges that he sexually assaulted a seven-year-old child. Investigators with the Grady County Sheriff's Office received a phone call from the victim's mother late Tuesday night.
The sheriff said the mother had come home from the grocery store and found her daughter had been attacked. Investigators say the seven-year-old's mother found her under a blanket, injured from an attack.
The victim's mother confronted the man she believes is the attacker, Rodolpho Velasquez, about the incident.
"He denied it and turned around, and ran so she called 9-1-1 and we got investigators there and officers. By the time we got out there he had already made flight," said Grady County Sheriff Harry Young.
Be on the lookout. Alert was released in Georgia and Florida. Velasquez was arrested about 100 miles away in dooly county by an officer at a rest stop.
A Grady County sheriff transported Velasquez to the county jail Wednesday morning. The sheriff says he could face multiple charges.
"Rape, child molestation, battery, aggravated battery. We'll put every charge we can put on him. As far as I'm concerned it's the same thing as murder on that little girl. We'll deal with him; I can guarantee he won't be doing it anymore," said Young.
The Sheriff's Office says the victim was taken to Grady General Hospital for emergency surgery for injuries sustained during the attack.
Hospital administrators say she is recovering and in stable condition. Two little boys, a three-year-old and a six-year-old, witnessed the attack. The Sheriff's Office will be interviewing them about what they saw, although it is an extremely sensitive case.
