Trends come and go when it comes to ice cream in exotic flavors and all sorts of concoctions, but the big popular today around the country is custom ice cream flavors mixed on a cold slab, right in front of us, and we're loving it! But for those times when we can't step out to enjoy the pros in action, here's how we can make our own version at home.
For now, we'll need a clean, cold surface to do our mixing, so the ice cream doesn't melt.
Something we might have on hand could be this marble cheese board. Or we can pick up a very inexpensive tile, marble, ceramic, it doesn't matter, right at any home improvement store. Again, make sure it's clean.
Pop it in the freezer until it's nice and cold and meanwhile, we let our ice cream soften up a bit just slightly. We take a few scoops and place 'em on the cold work board, press down on it with a wooden spoon or spatula until it's flat like this, and then the fun begins! Because it's mix-in time! So put out a few bowls of crumbled cookies or brownies, candies, or crushed-up nuts, mini marshmallows, diced fresh fruit – you get the idea.
Get as creative as you'd like.
