The Valdosta Lowndes Chamber of Commerce hosted an early bird breakfast honoring minority owned businesses and their contributions to the community.

The U.S. Department of Commerce was on hand giving pointers to local business owners. The award for Lowndes County Outstanding Minority-Owned Business of the Year went to Nairobi African Art in Lake Park.

"Oh my heart was beating fast, it was. But it's just such an honor and once I was called," says Earleen Thomas, Owner of Nairobi African Art. "I just didn't know what to say so I just spoke from my heart."

"We are interested in promoting black businesses in the community and improve as much as possible," says Clifford Lucas from Lowndes County Black Business Association,

Thomas dedicated the award to her late husband with whom she started the business.
