UPDATE: September 9, 2012

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say rain caused an SUV and semi-trailer crash leaving one dead on I-10 at 2:00pm on Saturday. Shaneeka Sanders, 30, was traveling east in the outside lane of Interstate 10. John Brim, 59, was driving a semi-tractor trailer combination and was driving east in an unknown lane of Interstate 10.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Sanders failed to operate her 2012 Dodge Avenger in a safe and prudent manner during heavy rain, causing her car to hydroplane across eastbound lanes into the path of Brim's 2006 Semi Peterbilt.

According to FHP, the front of Brim's semi-tractor trailer collided with the left side of Sanders vehicle and her car was redirected. Brim's tractor trailer overturned onto its left side and began sliding down eastbound lanes.

According to the release, the cab of the tractor portion of the semi collided with the guardrail on the south shoulder of the roadway and came to final rest facing a southwesterly direction across the eastbound lanes and the emergency lane on the south shoulder.

After the initial collision, Sanders left side then stuck the guardrail located on the south shoulder of the eastbound lane. Sanders car came to final rest facing northwesterly direction in the emergency lane on south shoulder. According to FHP, she did not sustain any injuries. According to the release, there was no alcohol in her system.

John W. Brim was pronounced dead by Deputy Elethia Chase with Leon County Sheriff Department at 2:17pm. He was transported by Strong and Jones Funeral Home to the Tallahassee Morgue. A toxicology report is pending.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by the Leon County Sheriff's Office and Tallahassee Fire Department, Department of Environmental Protection.
