The state of Florida is attributing 11 deaths to Hurricane Katrina.
Before heading into the Gulf, Katrina hit south Florida Thursday as a category one storm with 80 miles an hour winds.
Some areas were flooded, but it's unclear how many homes were damaged.
Initial computer modeling estimates peg the insured wind damage at $600 million to $2 billion.
Schools have reopened in Broward County and the Florida Keys Monday, but remain closed in Miami-Dade County.
About 314,000 customers in south Florida are still without power.
