FWC Prepares to Help

A group of law enforcement agencies are ready to head off to areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Five law enforcement agencies including Florida Fish and Wildlife, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Department of Agriculture were preparing to leave out of Maclay Gardens and head into the Pensacola area.

A spokesperson says the officers will leave in groups of three, set up command posts and start search and rescue operations.

CAPT Jack Daugherty with FWC says, "We take stuff to be prepared to do very rural or water born operations and get in areas, because all of our vehicles are four-wheel drive vehicles and support areas that's been evacuated that you can only get to using specialized equipment."

CAPT Daugherty says each of the officers will have enough supplies to sustain them for 96 hours.
