Katrina Affects Gas Prices

The Associated Press reports that refiners have closed more than one million barrels along the Gulf of Mexico.

Now drivers will likely see an increase in gas prices.

The Florida Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores Association says the state has sufficient gas supplies. Still, prices will go up depending on how much damage Hurricane Katrina causes to refineries in the Gulf.

Sarah Bleakley says it costs over $10 to top off her car with just three gallons of gas.

Sarah says, "Luckily, I have a good job and a nice salary and so I can afford to spend more of my discretionary income on fuel, but most people can't. I don't know what's gonna happen to the economy."

The Associated Press report adds that crude oil prices have jumped to more than $70 a barrel.
