Our area is seeing its share of wet weather. Now, Georgia residents may find out their homes aren't as safe from flooding as the may have thought.

According to The Associated Press, Georgia environmental officials are updating flood maps in all 159 of the state's counties.

Thomasville city engineer John Wood says many roads and new developments have been built since the city's current map was made.

John says, "They were developed in about, 1976 is the version we have now, and they said a lot has happened in the last 25, 30 years, and they're asking us to look at the maps and say what are we doing, do we have areas we feel that are wrong, need to be corrected?"

Wood says it will take many years for a new map to be completed. He says the actual field work would be completed by state environmental officials.
