The man accused in her death is on trial for drug possession.
Friday a judge ruled that two spoons with drug residue and a syringe found in a search of Joseph Smith's car can be used as evidence in that trial.
Smith was arrested for violating his probation and for possession of the powerful painkiller Oxycontin. He was charged with Carlie's slaying after authorities said he confessed to a relative visiting him in jail.
Smith's drug trial begins next week. His murder trial is set for November 7.
