Ever since it blew through, the huge grand casino built on a barge has been blocking U.S. Highway 90 in Gulfport, right where Katrina's storm surge left it. Wednesday the casino went out with a bang.
Wednesday morning a demolition crew blew up a section of the barge.
Three explosions in rapid succession brought down the five-story structure in a demolition overseen by the state Transportation Department.
The agency said the blast is part of its plan for reopening the road through Mississippi in 90 days.
Interestingly, the grand casino was the first casino to open on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.
