Tallahassee, FL - October 13, 2012
On Saturday, October 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Big Bend Homeless Coalition will host Homeless Services Day at 2729 West Pensacola Street in Tallahassee.
Homeless Services Day is an opportunity for people who are homeless to receive social services, Veterans’ services, legal and employment services, medical and dental screenings, hot meals, showers, haircuts, hygiene supplies, and many other critical supports.
The event is also a lot of fun, featuring a DJ and dance music, children’s activities, free long distance phone calls, and plenty of camaraderie.
On any given day, more than 800 people are homeless in Leon County, including hundreds of children.
Homeless Services Day brings together in one place the many services and groups that can help people end their episodes of homelessness.
Last year, more than 300 people participated in Homeless Services Day.
“Homeless Services Day is a success because of our compassionate and collaborative community. More than a hundred volunteers will help make Services Day a remarkable experience for the participants,” said Susan Pourciau, Executive Director of the Homeless Coalition.
“The day is also a great collaboration among more than 20 local agencies, including our key partners WORKFORCE plus, the Veterans Administration, and Bond Community Health Center.”
