Thirty-nine-year-old Army First Sergeant Alan Gifford was one of two soldiers killed by a makeshift bomb in Baghdad Friday night.
The Lincoln High School graduate is survived by his parents, brothers, wife, and two-year-old son.
His wife Beth called Gifford a devoted husband, father, and soldier who gave his life protecting his men. She also urged Americans to remember the sacrifices being made by soldiers and their families.
Funeral services for Alan Gifford are slated for next week in Savannah.
