The Wakulla County sheriff works to unravel a murder mystery. It's second homicide investigation of the year.
Sunday was an emotional day for residents of the small community of Medart. Many are still in shock after a man was found dead in his front yard Saturday. It happened on Boykin Road.
Alan Ferguson says he's known the victim since the seventh grade and that he was like a brother.
Along with Ferguson, Brenda Green also shared this trailer with the victim.
"Real nice guy, very friendly, outgoing, hard working, nice to everybody. We've got lots of friends that love him very much. He's going to be missed. It's tragic that this happened," added Green.
One of the roommates of the victim went to leave for work when she came into the yard. That's where she found the victim. They immediately called for help, but it was too late.
"I walked out there and the man said don't touch him, don't touch him, and I looked at him. I got from about here to that stump and I couldn't see him breathing," said Ferguson.
Deputies have arrested 34-year-old Steven Dewayne Watson, and Wakulla County authorities say this isn't the first time he's had a run-in with the law.
Now he's facing a second degree murder charge. The victim’s name hasn’t been released by authorities yet until the next of kin is notified.
Authorities do say he was in his early 50s. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday, and authorities expect the results sometime Monday.
