Recovering From Rita

Sleeping side by side with strangers night after night, and trying to raise a family in a shelter is something some Texas parents never imagined having to do.

Meanwhile, things in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana are finally getting back to normal. Officials say 99 percent of the electricity is back, as is water, sewer and gas.

Traffic is really picking up as residents return and go about repairing homes damaged by the storms. Hardware stores are seeing a huge increase in business. The most popular items are cleaning supplies, home repair supplies, and appliances.

President Bush took an hour-long helicopter tour over debris strewn communities and oil facilities on the Texas-Louisiana border, his first up-close look at the devastation from Hurricane Rita. Bush says he saw firsthand how much the area is hurting.
