(FOX) A Vancouver boy is recovering Sunday afternoon, from an extraordinary head wound.

A neighbor boy threw a knife and stuck it in his head. Fortunately, it was a butter knife, which lodged itself between Tyler Hemmert’s scalp and skull.

Tyler Hemmert says he and a friend we’re just sitting on this park bench, when another boy threw the knife at him.

The head wound turned out not to be serious. Still, it must hurt to have a knife in your noggin.

Hemmert said, ‘‘…I could see the handle of the butter knife sticking out. That’’s when I freaked out...’’

And Tyler Hemmert was not the only one to worry. He hurried to a nearby house for help, and then his friend raced several blocks to tell Tyler’s dad.

Brian Hemmert drove to the park. followed quickly by police and an ambulance. It’s not as bad as it looks, Brian heard them say, but they had to go to the hospital.

Hermmert said‘‘…they took a cat scan to make sure it wasn’’t in my skull. And then they numbed it and cut it open, and ripped the knife out…’’

Five stitches and a couple of hours later, Tyler Hemmert is back home.

Vancouver police say they talked to the boy who threw the knife, and his parents, and will send their report to juvenile authorities for possible charges.

Tyler's father said,‘‘…he’s the youngest of 4 boys, so I’ve been to the hospital a few times before...’’

But today’s trip to the hospital, with the knife stuck in his head, will be one Tyler and his dad will not forget.
