Bailey was accused of strangling his estranged wife Kelly last September as they reportedly argued over custody of their two young children.
Bailey faced life in prison if convicted at trial, but Friday he escaped with just 30 years behind bars.
Apparently the facts in this case were too much for John Bailey to fight as he pleaded no contest to second degree murder and serve an agreed upon sentence of 30 years.
At the time of the murder he claimed it was self defense, but his last minute change of plea saying otherwise.
Bailey would have faced first degree murder charges and a possible life sentence had the case gone to trial, but the downgraded charges give him a lesser sentence.
The families of John Bailey and his deceased wife Kelly were both in the courtroom Friday.
Kelly leaves behind two young boys. The mother says she will raise them to be strong young men who respect women.
